questions & answers …

You will be guided through what we call ‘Somatic Assessments’ for enhancing your confidence in intimate decision-making. These include enhancing your somatic recognition of yes and no, and how to tell the difference.

These are invaluable practices that support learning to recognise and represent our limits in life and relationships before it's too late.

You will be guided every step of the way into experimenting with new ways of being and revisiting old ways of being that you want liberation from.

What is Embodiment?

Our ability to come into a relationship with ourselves requires finding ways of connecting to, feeling and expressing what is happening inside our body. The embodiment can be understood to be this symbolic relationship with our feeling states, senses and how we create meaning from these experiences.

Discovering and gaining access to symbols and language can help us self-reflect, communicate and integrate the visceral responses from our bodies and embody these.

This work guides us into an exploration of embodied states, enhancing our capacity to be intimate with ourselves and with each other. This supports co-creating relationship agreements with conscious awareness and integrity.

When we are touched or we touch another, we are touching somatic memory channels from this lifetime and lifetimes that have gone before us.

- generations of unintegrated aspects of humanity emerge out of the soup of the collective conscious to be witnessed and accepted.

Questions & Answers

  • What happens at the beginning of a session?

What happens at the beginning of a session?

In the beginning, I invite you to write and share an “I want” list and I read it back to you. From this, we discover and explore what new ways of being you are wanting to inhabit. We then, together co-create our therapeutic relationship agreement with structured short and long-term plans.

  • Session Structure

Each session is designed and choreographed in steps:

    1 - Arrival

I will invite you to share how you are arriving and what you are transitioning from as you arrive. This offers an opportunity to acknowledge what you are arriving with and influences where you want to focus in your session today, as well as other areas you wish to park for another session or address today.

    2- Embodiment Arrival Practice

This is an optional guided meditation to support you arriving and transitioning somatically to support your receptivity.

    3-Your learning intention

This is our agreed focus of attention choice for your session today. Broadly, it will be your choice of us being alongside you using Body Poem with what you are arriving with, or a specific learning intention that is part of your vision, with aspects of yourself you want to focus on.

4- The heart of the session

This is where we give our shared focus on your chosen area of focus. This might be a Body Poem of what you are navigating and exploring in your life, alongside specific somatic embodiment practices to support you in inhabiting new ways of being.

    5- Integration

This is where we come to a pause, and there are a few moments or minutes where nothing happens to support your mind assimilating and integrating what you have been experiencing.

    6- Reflections

This is an opportunity to harvest what you are learning about yourself, and I will invite you to discover a title for your experience, like a chapter in your book of life.

    7- Home practice

We can explore at this stage what home practice might be useful for you to continue your learning and support your integration of what you are learning and updating in your everyday life.

    8- Feedback

This is where I will ask you

What has worked well for you, and what might you have wanted to be different? This is how we ensure these sessions are helpful for you and support me in understanding how best to facilitate them for you.

They are held in quality private locations in harmonious surroundings.

  • What does a Couple's program cost?

For couples, we recommend working with two of us. Together, this creates a stronger container for your process. We collectively bring over 40 years of in-depth experience and training in sexuality. We can provide demonstrations and bodywork opportunities that are especially useful for couples, with the polarities of gender roles and historical ruptures playing out between you. The two of us have your backs through this journey together. and hold you both with care, side by side.

These six- or twelve-session programmes create a container to hold the process

When somatic openings become active, past memories of being sad, lonely, in grief, in outrage, disbelief, in pain, etc, are very likely to surface in this process. We will be present to support you through these repair processes.

Successfully coming through ruptures of confidence offers tremendous opportunities for growth and confidence in navigating these in the rest of your life, breaking the patterns of things going wrong without ways to repair them. This is especially relevant for couples.

These programmes are not refundable if you decide not to complete the process.

If you are unsure and wish to proceed gradually, you are welcome to book one session at a time. If you prefer to book one-off sessions before committing to a programme:-

The pay-as-you-go price for couples is:

    * £270 for 90-minute sessions arranged via the 90-minute session link

Both of these use Stripe to process your payment.

  • Why do “the work” in retreats?

Why do “the work” in retreats?

It is easy to inhabit new ways of being and experience epiphanies in one-off sessions but without the installation of these experiences, they can get lost in short-term memory.

This is the most long-term and cost-effective way of gaining these skills. If you want to “inhabit new ways of being” learning and practising relationship skills, it takes a much longer period of time to see these changes happen in weekly or monthly online sessions. A busy life can also create distractions in between sessions that can potentially delay progress.

The ways that online sessions are effective are if you are in a relationship where you can practice together in between sessions or are committed to practising on your own.

The other advantage of our spending this time together for individuals working with me is that it simulates what it is like to be in a real relationship as we relax together. I am someone to practice with in private, where there is nothing to lose.

For couples, this is a no-brainer: have Joe and me alongside you, helping and supporting you as you learn to inhabit new ways of being with each other and overcome projections that we all inevitably get stuck in without guidance to repair the ruptures of confidence and trust that can so easily happen without witness and support.

  • How does an overnight retreat help?

How does an overnight retreat help?

The overnight part is particularly important, as internal dialogue referencing unvoiced communications often arises in sessions afterwards and can easily be integrated the following day, which is not available when you go home straight afterwards.

Also, sleep has a very important integrative function, and the session the following day can support wiring the fired-up new neural networks from the day before.

These retreats are designed with integration and installation to support the laying down of new neural networks in long-term memory that is useful for the future.

  • What happens in a session or retreat?

What happens in a session or retreat?

You will be guided into the areas of exploration you are seeking to experiment with.

These include what we call ‘somatic assessment’ which illuminates where your blindspots are, where you are not in choice with your decision making and areas where you are learning ways of representing what matters to you that are not currently being represented with accuracy.

There will be areas and aspects of you that you are not happy with and want to change. There are over 45 somatic practices to choose from, including Wheel of Consent practice, Body Poem, bodywork, Body Focusing, meditations, movement and play, mapping, massage, etc.

I support you in discovering what you need to feel safe enough to feel more, trusting your intuition and discovering your strengths and inner resources so you can learn to listen to your inner guides.

I guide you step by step through a process that supports you in being liberated from the straitjacket of projection into the fullest receptivity to what’s true for you, so you can overcome your fears and raise your confidence in making the changes you want in your life. listening to your body's communication and practising asking for what you want, practising intimate decision-making.

  • How long does it take to overcome a loss of confidence?

How long does it take to overcome a loss of confidence?

The length of time of each session and the frequency and number of sessions do not necessarily relate to the depth of what we explore. That depends on the depth of presence we achieve, which takes different amounts of time and approaches depending on what you need to feel safe enough to relax into.

Like any therapeutic process, habits of a lifetime take courage to let go of and inhabiting new ways of being influences identity and belonging. It's important during this journey that you protect your tender new growth from the needs of others who love how you are and are frightened of losing you as you change. You might be frightened of losing yourself, so all the practices are in private, and you are guided in a titrated way, one step at a time. Things can happen in an instant when you experience a somatic opening with insights and revelations just as quickly as bad things have happened, the good is here waiting for you, too. While we are repairing the past, the integration process takes time to trust life again. I estimate that for lasting change, you are looking at 2-3 years of working through your annual cycles to discover yourself in new ground.

  • Do you work with virgins?

    Do you work with virgins?

Yes, alongside supporting people experienced in intimate relationships where trusting in intimacy is being inhibited, I specialise in working with people who are inexperienced or virgins wanting to gain confidence and experience and to learn to trust in intimacy for the first time.

There are many times when confidence can be lost in intimacy and we are not meant to figure things out on our own either in a relationship or when we are on our own.

  • How do I go back into my life if I discover truths about myself that my loved ones don’t know about?

How do I go back into my life if I discover truths about myself that my loved ones don’t know about?

We have a duty of care to the ones we love who may be attached to the old versions of ourselves we are updating as these influence our relationship agreements. As part of “aftercare,” I support you with integrating new ways of being into your current life and learning how to co-create new more congruent relationship agreements

  • What kinds of areas do you help couples with?

What kinds of areas do you help couples with?

You might be avoiding addressing loneliness with your partner concerning your sexual or intimacy needs and want to find a way back into connection and bravely speak the unspeakable.

An opportunity to take time away from home and work life without distractions to expand your repertoire and learn more about touch; enhancing intimacy and sensation.

    • You may be longing to relax from the tensions and habits that most long-term relationships experience

    • You might be experiencing what are called “troublesome turn-ons” that feel unspeakable with your partner which is driving you to look elsewhere but you wish you could bring them back into your relationship with acceptance.

    • One or both of you might be experiencing a loss of libido or mismatched desires and needs and want to know how to come together and rekindle eros with each other.

  • What are Somatic Openings"?

    What are Somatic Openings"?

Somatic openings are when epiphanies update versions of ourselves with new insights or “awakenings” which we then have the responsibility of taking care of.

My hindsight has taught me to facilitate step-by-step tantra within the framework of the Wheel of Consent to limit experiences from being overwhelming which is not useful. This way, we can be confident with these encounters knowing that there are islands of choice in between the dives into opening the senses.

  • Can I (we) learn about Tantra in sessions with you

    Do you practice Tantra?

Yes, I facilitate tantric practices with many years of experience teaching Tantra with the necessary hindsight, understanding neurobiology, with consent, trauma and the right use of power.

You might be curious and excited to expand and discover new realms in altered states of consciousness, and want to explore how to open your senses through Tantric practices.

Opening the senses can facilitate trance-like, timeless states, with the Default Mode Network in the brain being released from self-referential identity-maintenance.

Tantric practices sometimes offer role-play opportunities to inhabit new ways of being in your divinity and sovereignty, empowering you and your partner to move beyond the limitations of your egoic identity.

When this happens, the boundaries of the self, the other, and the universe relax, and aspects of the self previously inhibited can emerge into awareness, offering what are known as somatic openings.

Tantric practices can be learned during in-person retreats after the micro-skills of navigating altered states, consent, and representing yourself, as well as clear relationship agreements, have been established.

  • What do you teach about pleasure?

What do you teach about pleasure?

Learning the Wheel of Consent practices for inhabiting the direct routes to pleasure through touch.

Learning what brings you pleasure and about your pleasure with another’s pleasure.

Discovering your erotic hidden drivers, the anatomy of arousal and the core erotic themes in your life.

Pleasure might be the sensual erotic closeness of intimacy or the forbidden edges of exiled aspects of self-expression or adventure.

These can be explored in role-play practice, involving the indirect routes to pleasure.

Eros can be understood as in the service of integrating all aspects of nature.

  • Can you help me with painful sex?

Can you help me with painful sex?

You may want to overcome physical or emotional pain concerning self-pleasure or in intimacy with another.

In my hindsight experience, this is often from adapting ourselves, which can lead to commodifying our bodies. This easily happens when belonging needs override authenticity, which eventually results in stress, inflammation and pain.

I facilitate a return to your body and mind to listen to where it hurts and to repair and heal the pain.

From deep listening to ourselves, we can learn to navigate intimacy decisions with care without it hurting again and open the buds of pleasure and desire that are somatically led.

  • What happens in a consultation discovery call?

What happens in a consultation discovery call?

Consultations are via Zoom or telephone and are 30-45 minutes, during which I listen to what you want to welcome into your life, what you are curious to explore, and what you want to be free from.

We then create possible ways forward together.

You decide whether you want 60-minute Body Poem sessions or 90-minute somatic intimacy coaching sessions that include a Body Poem.

You decide during the call or afterwards, when you've had time to reflect and plan, whether you want one-off sessions or you want to participate in a program for change.

You decide whether you want to plan ahead for in-person work, as these retreats are booked a year in advance.

Bearing in mind that if you have the discipline to participate in a two - three year program, of sessions each week with two embodiment retreats during 8 months of the year, you are likely to see the changes you are looking for.

The integration times when there are no sessions are in August, October, December, and January.

I will let you know the days and times I have available (either currently or coming up) for taking on new clients during this discovery call.

  • Should I come to see you alone or with my partner?

Should I come to see you alone or with my partner?

I support you in co-creating new authentic relationship agreements.

    • You may want to experiment with new versions of yourself in private and then come home to the ones you love and who love you with new versions of yourself and enough self-acceptance to support you in co-creating new relationship agreements together. If I work with you without your partner, I would require that they be aware of the work you are doing solo and that your intentions for this be shared if you want to grow together.

    • If you are in the process of finding the confidence to separate in peace in response to irreconcilable ruptures in your relationship, I can offer support with this with both of you or with you individually.

    • or You may want to explore updating versions of yourself with your beloved and co-creating new relationship agreements so you are on the same page each step of the way together.

    • Please read about the couple's work that my colleague Joe and I facilitate that can hold you both in navigating learning new ways of being with each other in your authenticity and confidence.

What is Body Mapping?

What we feel in each part of our body is with a biofeedback loop.

Sometimes we have an inaccurate map of our bodies in our brains which makes it impossible to know where and when to touch. Imagine if you never touched or looked at yourself;- you would not have ANY maps to guide you. This means that you would NOT be in consent in intimacy with yourself or with another. It would be the blind leading the blind!

Body mapping offers an opportunity to discover the maps of your body integrating the subjective and objective sense of self and identity with understanding and healing the parts of you that went underground that become silent drivers in your life. This can release buried feeling states repressed and held in the body tissue.

When we are touched or touching another, we are touching memories.

The brain maps the body from the outside in and from the inside out in different neural networks in the brain. Body mapping engages the circuitry of the internal visceral landscapes of the body and the external landscapes of the body through the senses and sensations in a dance between the felt senses and the mind’s categorisations. Most of us have at least a sketch available, but that leads to hit-and-miss intimacy, and body mapping literally gives us more detailed maps to navigate intimate territories with.

  • Why do we respond to acceptance or rejection just like water ?

"By exposing water to a particular word or piece of music, freezing it, and photographing the ice crystals formed, Dr Emoto has shown that from beautiful words and music, come beautiful crystals, and from mean-spirited, negative words, come malformed and misshapen crystals. The adult human body is approximately 70% water and infant bodies are about 90% water."

Dr Emoto - “The Hidden Messages in Water”

  • How can I overcome feeling self conscious with my naked body?

I have developed creative ways of facilitating being in choice with the liberation of nakedness at the same time as being in privacy. This is a step-by-step journey into undressing that eventually feels like the most natural place to be

  • How on earth can I reach acceptance with the "Just is" when I can't see this myself?

We all get our insides from the outside first. You might be living your life with internalised beliefs about your body from what another has said to you or you may be comodifying your body in comparison with idealised versions that are given status power. I have however witnessed people inhabiting Status power bodies that are crippled in their personal power and people inhabiting bodies that are outside of the range of idealised versions that are glowing in their personal power. It is all about self-acceptance and understanding that we are bigger than the sum of our parts. The compartmentalisation of our bodies is a left-brain specialism and a right-brain disability that western culture promotes. This is a result of the stress of over-adaption.

The left brain is literally “blind” to the bigger picture and can only compartmentalise and commodity which is tragic when we do this to our bodies.

These sessions are a guided journey that is unique for each person offering liberation from the holograms of projection of what we are not into receptive kindness with the just is of our naturalness.

  • From your cocoon of naked privacy

The first part of the undressing experience is out of sight, private and in front of me at the same time.

From your cocoon of naked privacy, I invite you to share your body story "from the outside in" acknowledging with radical acceptance where you are now and discovering new versions of yourself. The experience is completed with you listening to your Body Poem and reflecting on these new enriched versions of yourself.

"It is a joy to be hidden and a disaster never to be found" - Donald Winnicott

  • Get it over and done with!

How often have you taken off your clothes because that's the done thing or what is expected? How many times has it felt too much too soon and you’ve disassociated? How many times have you held your breath to get it over and done with? How many times have you only done it in the dark? How many times have you endured nakedness and feeling exposed either in intimate experiences or medical ones?

I have successfully taught many people how to easily be in their integrity and authenticity when uncovering intimacy without disassociating or having emotional hangovers later.

  • Choice with hide and seek and only being found when you are ready

When you are ready, the next stage is exploring the physical outer and inner landscapes of your body from the privacy of being warm and covered. You are in choice at any moment to uncover aspects of your body and be witnessed.

Through this experience, you might discover what you hadn't "seen" before and in this process, there is the opportunity to re-frame limiting reflections into more enriched ones. Very often we are carrying around in our bodies what someone once said about us that may or may not be true.

  • "We get our insides from the outside first"

    Donald Winnicott

What is the Wheel of Consent?

“The Wheel of Consent is a model of consent based on, but not requiring, exchanges of touch. The Wheel notes the distinction between the ‘doing’ aspect of the touch dynamic — who is doing — and the ‘gift’ aspect — who it is for.” - Betty Martin

Touching and being touched awakens complex biofeedback loops between the sensory receptors of your hands with the part of the body that is being touched. When we are being touched, we are touching memories and also when touching, we are awakening memories of where our curiosity might have been interrupted. In repeating these simple exercises, we are coming home attending to aspects of ourselves that need care and attention and learning to trust our spontaneity and confidence with attuned curiosity.

As well as touching and being touched soothing and restoring emotional equilibrium offering somatic messages of self-directed care and repair from times we have felt alone and done to or from the isolation of no touch, there are possibilities for curiosity and pleasure that is both in the touching AND in the being touched.

“For example, you may be touching another person for their enjoyment, or you may be touching them for your enjoyment.

Both of those dynamics are welcome and needed in different situations, and once the distinction is clear, the entire touch dynamic becomes clear, which brings ease, confidence, self-responsibility and freedom to the interaction.” - Betty Martin.

Dr Betty Martin has informed the foundations of my practice with her profound and simple teachings that support an easy, safe, step-by-step route into embodiment and living a consensual life by opening the direct routes to pleasure. These are called direct routes to pleasure and intimacy as they are engaging through the senses rather than purely through imagination associations.

I am a certified Wheel of Consent Practitioner with many years of practice applying the dynamics of the wheel in thousands of hours of clinical practice and participated and assisted in many “Like a Pro” training for practitioners learning these essential skills of how to serve without taking.

I currently teach the Wheel of Consent as part of the Institute for Relational Harmony Studies Sexological Bodywork and Somatic Sex Educators professional practitioner training.

'It's over with before I've felt it”

This is a very common problem and you’ve come to the right place to support you in overcoming this often embarrassing and disappointing experience. I do not just teach pelvic floor control of ejaculation which is just another control route to what is a deeper body motivation. I teach step by step re-firing new neural pathways to increase the body’s capacity to feel intense feelings and states of pleasure and ecstasy without it blowing a fuse.

There can be many reasons why a person’s body takes them out of the feeling before they've experienced enough of the pleasure in the experience. One reason could be that the body hasn't adequately accessed the parasympathetic nervous system, which is necessary to feel. This is common among people living busy lives, where high demands and stress are associated with achieving goals.

Another common reason is that your body might be used to masturbating quickly in private from a young age, and the same neural pathways are established when you want to be close to another, witnessing your pleasure. It’s as simple as creating new routes to achieve this capacity, thereby overcoming the shame inhibitors that many adolescents develop, which interrupt confidence in being witnessed in aroused states in intimate relationships.

Another reason can be developmental changes in your life and body, which require you to re-discover new connections inside of you from the ones that have stopped working.

Another reason may be fears that have no specific name silently interrupting the surrender into pleasure and intimacy. I support you in easily uncovering these to increase your confidence and kindness with yourself, so relaxation and intimacy become easy and pleasurable.

I guide you with easy, step-by-step guidance that supports your body to have an increased capacity for pleasure and feeling.

What is Scar Tissue Remediation?

Scar tissue remediation, developed by Ellen Heed, is taught in professional Sexological Bodywork training to heal the scars of healed-over wounds from operations or accidents where function has been impaired.

We all carry scars, some small, some big, and very few of us get away without any injuries in our lifetimes. They are part of our vintage and require radical acceptance, like any wounds, emotional or physical, that have impacted our body.

Healing the contracted tissue of scars with Body Poem coaching can transform physical scars and liberate the contracted, restricted skin and flesh, increasing sensitivity with feelings flowing again.

Scars from injuries can affect body image, causing emotional or physical pain and limiting function, eg, vulva scarring from childbirth, penis scarring from circumcision, scarring from prostate operations, mastectomy scars, caesarian section scars, gender reassignment scars, etc.

When the body has been impacted, the body’s defence mechanisms activate fibroblasts to knit the wound rapidly with collagen, which can carry on attracting this repair mechanism, causing inflammation over time and affecting other parts of the body in a chain reaction, leading to what is sometimes called referred pain.

Engaging in focused touch with specific massage techniques using organic castor oil can deepen your receptivity to sensation. The practitioner first demonstrates scar tissue remediation, and then you, as a recipient, take your wounds into your own hands to heal what can be reached easily in complex biofeedback loops between the sensory receptors of your hands and the part of the body you are touching. The remembered physical impact of the injury can be liberated, relieving emotional and physical pain that has been held in the scar tissue. Healing scars is like taking your heart into your hands and giving the message to your immune system that care has been taken, and the body can restore equilibrium and relax again.
